AGM 2000

27th Annual General Meeting of the Seal Sailing Association held on the 5th March 2000

at the Post House, Brentwood

Following the decision of the SSA Committee to hold the AGM in different parts of the country, in order to make it easier for local members to attend, this AGM was held at the Post House, Brentwood for the benefit of East Coast members. 42 people attended.

Ashlett Creek Rally

17th & 18th June

This rally took in a visit to the 'Jolly Sailor' at Ashlett Creek on the Saturday lunch time and the 'Jolly Sailor' at Bursledon at the top of the Hamble River on Saturday evening.

There were 7 boats at Ashlett Creek:

  • Sea-Ell (Parker 27)

  • Sand Hopper (Parker 27 on a visit from Pin Mill in Suffolk)

  • Tilikum (Parker 325)

  • Leander of Dorset (Seal 28)

  • Elsa (Seal 26)

  • Snaffu Too (Seal 22)

  • Zest (Parker 275)

later at  Swanwick marina there were an additional 5 boats:

Later that day the fleet moved to Swanwick marina Bursledon where they met up with another five SSA boats. These pictures are of the fleet sharing the hospitality of Jonathon and Sarah Houston owners of the Parker 325 'Tilikum'

On the Sunday morning, many members visited the Burlsedon Brick Works that were open to the public. These works are undergoing extensive renovation.

Wooton Creek Rally

This rally was the final one in 2000. The boats met up on the pontoons of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club at Wootton Creek which is on the Eastern end of the Isle Of Wight.

There were 16 boats plus two crews who came by road due to very high winds:

Saturday morning some members of the 'SSA Ramblers Club' went for a walk and visited 'Our Lady Of Quarr' Abbey. This is a recently built abbey having been completed in 1912.

In this photograph can be seen remains of the original abbey. This was founded in 1132 and existed for 400 years until the 'Dissolution of the Monasteries' in 1536.
