AGM 2001
28th Annual
General Meeting of the Seal Sailing Association held on the 25th February 2001
at The Ship, Alveston
Following the decision of the SSA Committee to hold the AGM
in different parts of the country, in order to make it easier for local members
to attend, this AGM was held at the The Ship, Alveston for the benefit of
West Coast members. 41 members attended.

Newport, Lymington and Ryde Rally
(April 13-16)
The following is a record of the first rally of 2001.
The photographs have been provided by Ken Surplice (Parker 275 'Vol-au-vent')
Vol-au-vent was the only yacht to make Newport,
Lymington and Ryde. In Ryde, Vol-au-vent was joined by Cleo, Abacus
and a Seal 26 'Tiptoe Too'. And concerning weather, not only did the fleet
make Lymington to Ryde downwind in such good time that it had to anchor
off for an hour, but on the return journed (for some) from Ryde to Hamble,
the wind has shifted to the NE and they returned home without tacking.
Unheard of on an SSA rally!

Poole Rally
(April 5-7)
The photographs have been provided by Brenda Harvey (Parker 275 'Zest')
Though the strong NE wind did not bode well for this
rally, 11 boats attended
Tilikum (Parker 325)
Zest (Parker 275)
Vol-au-vent (parker 275)
Abacus (Parker 275)
Marguerite (Parker (275)
Maybe (Parker 27)
Shemar (Parker 27)
Little Auk (Parker 21)
Cygnus (Parker 21)
Ariel (Seal 26)
Shiraz (Seal 22)
The event was organised by Neil and Kathy Palmer.
Tough very cold with a biting NE wind, on Zest we had two
spanking sails. On the Friday we dropped our mooring at 8.50 and arrived
in Poole at 13.20; four and a half hours (reaching all the way). On
the Monday we had to beat all the way back, but with out new Kemp blade
sail balancing the boat beautifully, we reached Hurst in 3 hours. For us
these are two records that will take some beating
The series of photographs stop at Wareham which was the
place Brenda lost her camera ~£1000 with accessories. (left in the Quay
Inn) Surprisingly, a honest visitor handed the camera and this was picked
up on Tuesday the 9th.

Arriving at Wareham we found Marguerite (Parker 275) |
We had lunch at the Quay Inn where we were joined by
several members of the SSA who came by car. |

At this point we lost our camera so I am indebted to
Ken Surplice for the following photographs |

The following shots show how beautiful Wareham looks
on a sunny day. They were taken on Tuesday the 8th when we returned
(by car) to pick up the camera.
Pity is we do not know the name of the person who
handed in the camera, but
we thank him anyway. Our faith in the honesty of people has been restored. |
