Keyhaven & Christchurch Rallies
We had a good rally to Keyhaven and Christchurch Yacht Club over the
Bank Holiday weekend.
More boats than planned turned up at Keyhaven for the Saturday night
and the harbour master did a good job in getting everyone just about
fitted in. Ken Surplice arrived early and helped with directing everyone
to the moorings. The final total was 19 boats, which was very impressive.
We had an excellent barbecue, which was very kindly organised by Betty
& Les Dry, who are stalwart members of Keyhaven Yacht Club.
On the Sunday most of the fleet with some additions and some leaving
for other destinations sailed off to Christchurch. The rally organiser for
one raised his spinnaker but there was so little wind that bacon and eggs
were cooked and eaten whilst the autohelm steered the boat!
We had very good weather on Sunday afternoon followed by an excellent
meal at Christchurch YC. A total of 14 boats arrived in port and we had
more members attending by land.. The hospitality at the club was much
appreciated as was the beer!
We then all departed back. Nobody despite much foreboding by the rally
organiser had a problem with Christchurch entrance! Those who had come
from the east had to beat all the way back after beating against a
westerly on Saturday all the way to Keyhaven – a minor complaint at the
end of an enjoyable rally.
