May Bank Holiday report
1st – 3rd May 2004
Saturday
The forecast on Friday was not great, winds were light
enough but the forecast was for showers, some heavy (typical Bank
Holiday weekend).
I was up early on Saturday at 5.30 am, to go to work.
The weather was as forecast, dull and overcast, with quite a nip in
the air. At lunchtime I decided to check the mobile for messages
outside, and was pleasantly surprised to feel warmth in the air, but
it was still very dull and overcast.
1500 hrs left work, destination Elephant boat Yard,
via home, to pick up the BBQ, dinghy and family. Cleo was going to
stay on her mooring for this part of the rally (no point in paying
twice!)’.
Arrived at the boat yard to be met by the Surplice
family where" Vol au Vent" is moored. Ken was drafted in to
be the welcoming committee on my behalf, for early attendees.
The sun started to shine, did this mean the weathermen
had got it wrong?
Inflatables were pumped up, outboards fitted, and we
set off up stream with the flood. We went to find a nice, albeit
muddy, bank along the Hamble River.
We had sunshine for the rest of the weekend.
Sunday
Early start across the Solent and a gentle meander up
the River Medina to Newport where we met up with more Seals. The tide
came and went and people busied themselves with sail changing, rigging
adjustments and sunbathing or polishing.
The evening started at Pimms o’clock on
"CLEO" followed by a meal in the nearby restaurant. (The
name escapes me for now).
Monday
Homeward bound, we cruised in company under sail down
the river
