We had a very enjoyable evening , attended by four local Seal 22’s and two Parker 325’s from Fowey, making a party of 12.

24/06/01 Annual Fun Race

In 2000 we failed to hold the race, having had to cancel on three occasions due to the weather conditions. This year, however, we had a glorious, sunny day with a light southerly breeze.

The following is a report and photo from a local paper (Western Morning News).

CORNWALL AREA REPORT FOR 2002 SEASON

The Cornwall Area commenced the 2002 season with a meal/social evening at the Falmouth Marina. Eight members attended. It was a good evening – very interesting to hear of the exploits of those who venture further afield than some of us, ie Roger Browne and Philip Dorman. Peter Gilchirst (Gadgetman) also provided us with much entertainment with his latest gadgets.

The season started very badly weatherwise and didn’t improve for our evening at The Heron on 15 June. This was attended by 7 members, all of whom travelled by road to the venue in torrential rain and high winds. Geoff and Lyn Maughan, always staunch supporters of this event, drove from St Austell and Alan Winrow, the new owner of Miss Fidget, came from as far as Saltash. It was a very enjoyable evening.

Later in June it was a pleasant surprise to learn that Shemar was in the Fal and a great pleasure for Tony and myself to meet up with Martin and Sheila in St Mawes where we spent a delightful evening in the Watchhouse. Shemar left the following morning, kindly leaving us in sunshine and Tony and I had an enjoyable week pottering around the Helford and the Fal.

The 6 July also dawned bright and sunny and three 22’s joined Restronguet Sailing Club on their cruise to Helford Sailing Club for lunch.

Our annual Fun Race was held (courtesy of Restronguet Sailing Club) on 4 August. Light winds and sunshine made it a pleasant sail which was won by Graham Hunt’s son, Greg, in Pochard, followed by Tony and myself in Ftera and then Martyn Hochkins and Marilyn Gay in their newly acquired Sinbad, Aegina. It was good to meet Eric and Anne Warwicker in their Parker 21, Footloose, recently trailed to our waters from Norfolk.

Not the best of seasons for weather, though it did improve in September, but it was good to meet some new/distant members – and there’s always next year.
