Poole Area Pre Season Lunch

The Grasshopper Hotel in Lower Parkstone was the chosen venue for lunch on Saturday 25th February 2006.

On looking through the handbook one cold winter evening, it was discovered that 52 Seals reside between Christchurch and Portland harbours. On closer inspection 18 were found in Christchurch Harbour, 30 in Poole Harbour and 2 in the Weymouth / Portland harbours. To advertise the event all members would receive a flyer in the December newsletter.

This resulted in 40 members arriving for lunch on the appointed day to be accommodated on five tables of eight in the newly decorated, self contained dining room at the rear of the hotel Many thanks to our Commodore Clifford Miller for travelling down from High Wycombe to be with us on this occasion and also very importantly bringing with him the large Seal banner that graced the far end of our dining room over lunch.

Our thanks also to Jonathan Houston our Sailing Secretary and Sarah for supporting this event.

The bar was opened in the dining room at 11.30 and a very social pre lunch natter ensued where friends were warmly greeted and many new acquaintances made.

Lunch was served at 1pm and was thoroughly enjoyed by all those dining.

By 3.30pm lunch was finished, the commercials for the coming season had been delivered and all had gone their various ways to make the most of a fresh but clear and sunny afternoon.

RALLY TO CHRISTCHURCH

SATURDAY 3rd JUNE 2006

Low-water Poole 10.00. High-water Christchurch 1900

The tides on this day will best suit boats departing from Poole and those returning from the Dorset Cruise who might be in Weymouth on the night of Friday 2nd June. These boats will be able to travel east in the afternoon, high water Christchurch being around 19.00 on Saturday.

The icing on the cake is that Christchurch Sailing Club have been able to accommodate us alongside on their new quay area and we will be able to use the clubs excellent facilities. A meal on the Saturday evening has been arranged with the club caterers, the approximate cost will be around £12.50 for three courses, more details nearer the time. I hope that some of the Christchurch

S.C.- S.S.A. members will be able to join us on the Saturday afternoon for some socialising and at the meal in the evening. Departure on Sunday 4th June will be quite early as high water is around 07.00.

Please let me know if you are joining in as I shall need to give Christchurch Sailing Club an idea of how many boats need berths and how many will dine.

If you can not arrive by boat for the dinner, then join us by car.
